Description

A lot of the drying on a round gets done with whatever towel is nearest, and the wrong one just pushes water about. The Maykker Terry Towel is soft microfibre, so it lifts water off the glass and holds it. Frames, sills and shopfronts become dry in fewer passes.

Use it wet or dry. Damp, it is a detailing and wiping down cloth. Dry, it is a polishing towel for buffing out a smear or finishing at eye level. The black trim piping is soft and absorbent like the rest of the towel, so the edge wipes rather than drags.

Two sizes. The 40cm x 40cm folds small enough to live on a belt, and the 80cm x 40cm gives you more surface before it needs wringing out. Both come as a single or a pack of 10, and both machine wash and tumble dry. Maykker say they work better after a few washes.

Maykker build these to sit alongside their SmartBag range, so they suit a belt setup like the Maykker SmartBag: StandardBag FrontLoader, which has a pouch for cloths and scrims.

RECENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between the two sizes?

The small towel is 40cm x 40cm and the large is 80cm x 40cm, so the large is double the length at the same width. The small one folds down to belt or pocket size and suits detailing and quick wipes. The large gives you more dry surface before it needs wringing out, which is what you want for drying down frames and sills after a water fed pole job, or for van work.

Does the price cover one towel or ten?

Both, depending on which option you pick on this page. Each size is sold as a single or as a pack of 10. The single is the sensible way to try one. Once you know it suits the way you work, the pack of 10 is how most people buy them, because towels get left on window sills and go through the wash in batches.

Can I use it dry?

Yes, and that is one of the main jobs it does. Dry, it works as a polishing towel for buffing out a smear, taking a haze off glass, or finishing a shopfront at eye level. Damp, it picks up water and general dirt for detailing and wiping down. Plenty of cleaners carry one of each, one damp for the work and one dry for the finish.

Will it scratch glass?

There is no abrasive pad or scrubbing panel on it, and the black trim is soft and absorbent rather than a hard stitched seam, so nothing on the towel is meant to cut. What causes scratches with any cloth is grit picked up off frames and sills. Rinse it out when it has been on the floor, and keep the towels you use on glass separate from the ones you use on gutters and sills. A dedicated WCW Microfibre Sill Cloth is the usual way people keep the two apart.

How do I wash them?

Machine wash and tumble dry. Maykker say they work better after a few washes, which is normal for microfibre, because the fibres open up once the finish from manufacture comes out. As with any microfibre, keep fabric softener away from it, because softener coats the fibres and cuts how much water they can hold.

How is this different from a scrim?

A scrim is linen and works by polishing dry glass, and it is at its best in the hands of someone who has used one for years. A microfibre towel like this one absorbs more water and is easier to learn on. Plenty of cleaners use both, microfibre to take the bulk of the water off and a Grade A Scrim - Prewashed for the final polish on plate glass.

Will it fit a bucket on a belt pouch?

The 40cm x 40cm is the one to pick for belt work, because it folds small. Maykker built these alongside their SmartBag range, so they suit those pouches and most other Bucket on a Belt setups, and the large towel folds down too if you do not mind it taking more of the pocket. If you work off a particular belt or bag, check its pouch against the folded towel before ordering a full pack.
